Who We Are:
Common Wheel is more than a repair service. It’s an experiment in what work can look like when people come before profit. We are a worker-owned cooperative formed around a simple conviction: the skills, labor, and knowledge of mechanics should enrich the people who perform them and the communities they live in, not distant investors or corporate shareholders. Our model rejects the idea that the only purpose of a business is extraction. Instead, we focus on building shared value—where affordable car care keeps neighbors mobile, where good jobs stay rooted in the community, and where the people turning the wrenches help decide how the business grows. We believe economic power belongs on the hands of the workers, not in a boardroom, and that transparency, democratic decision-making, and collective ownership aren’t lofty ideas. They’re tools for creating fair prices, honest work, and a better experience for everyone involved. As part of that commitment, we never mark up parts—what we pay is what you pay—because trust shouldn’t cost extra. When your vehicle runs better, your life does too, and when your mechanic has a real stake in their workplace, the results aren’t just repairs—they’re relationships, dignity, and a stronger local economy.
